Asthma medication

At the allergy conference I attended a couple of weeks ago I had the chance to speak to Diane Michaud, Asthma Educator Niagara Health Services. She offered advise and information to people with asthma. Before her workshop we discussed the use of lactose containing milk proteins in inhalers. She didn't offer any real reason inhalers contain this allergen, when so many people with food allergies have asthma.

I attended her workshop "ABC's of Asthma and Allergic Rhinitis" She did demonstrations with placebo medications and out lined some of the advantages and disadvantages of different medications. It came out that many asthma (and other) medications contain milk. Several people became greatly concerned at the lecture.

For more information see the document by Allergy Asthma Information Milk Protein and Allergy Medication

At the dentist they may use a floride treatment called Prospect MI it contains Recaldent that contains milk proteins.

See your pharmacist, call the manufacture, remember very few doctors know the ingredients in medications. This is only a short reference to milk protein's in medications. Everything from birth control pills, to flu medications can contain milk protein. Even medical grade lactose has small parts of milk protein in it.

Thanks for sharing. Parents of food allergic children have enough to worry about, now this just adds to it. Sigh.
