Labeling Changes Mustard in the Top 11
New Rules Alcohol

Mustard has joined the ranks of the peanut, tree nut, shellfish and others and is now considered a priority allergen in Canada.

Health Canada announced last week that it is amending its new and pending food allergen labeling regulations to include mustard on the list of foods that must be declared in plain language, and must be listed on an ingredient label, even when it's an ingredient of another ingredient. As it stands, a company could simply list 'spice' or 'flavouring' without specifying that mustard is present.

May Contain statements are still not required, and allergens in fruit and vegetable waxes only need to be declared if packaged, not if sold separately. (corn not mentioned as wax ingredient soy & milk listed as wax ingredient)

This law is not yet in effect, and Canadians know how many delays their have been so far. Canada introduced clear allergy labelling bills before the United States, yet they became law in the States, Australia and other places first!
