Introducing New Foods

I picked up this advise while taking a First Aid Course many years ago:
Do not offer new foods to a child during bad weather, due to increase in time to get to a hospital during a possible allergic reaction. I would also add if you live far from a hospital, and you have allergies in the family introducing new foods at a friends or family member's house who live closer to a hospital, may be a good idea, depending on allergy history.

Kyle Dine brought up a good point on his blog post Have Baby, Will Travel – Going on Tour with an Infant. Introducing foods – We knew that we were entering the stage of solid food introduction and made a game plan of introducing only fruits and veggies while living on the road. Introducing common allergens would wait until we got home.

It is spring again make sure emergency personal can see your house number by trimming bushes.

Mother's Day

I was greeted with warm Mother's Day greetings, homemade gifts from my children, and a CD from my husband.

We usually go for a hike on Mother's Day or a small day trip. This Mother's Day we went to Friends of the Aviary in Hamilton to learn about and visit the birds.

Later in the afternoon my youngest had a play date, and all the kids made more homemade gifts, and crafts at the dinning room table.

My eldest, and husband made Stuffed Peppers. See my last post on Stuffed Peppers so I did not have to cook tonight.

In the evenning we watched March of the Penguins a very apropriate film for Mohter's Day.

Outting

Today our youngest and non allergic child, went to a birthday party, it is nice not to have to pack a special lunch.

My eldest allergic child, and I did a non food activity together this time we went to Michael's Craft Store. We got some craft projects to do both by herself, and with her sister and friends.

Last week my allergic child went to a friends house, I went out with our non allergic child for ice cream. I can't always make things perfectly fair. Allergic families find different ways to make things work, at least most of the time.

Picnic

Last weekend was our family picnic, a chance for second cousins to play in sand while Aunts and Uncles and cousins talk about family over potluck lunch.

I brought a potato salad. I boiled potatoes, while chopping up fruit and veggies (cucumbers carrots, onions green and red peppers) I then cooled the potatoes, in the fridge in a separate containers in the fridge. In the morning I mixed the two, mixing in Organicville's Non Dairy Ranch Dressing and a little olive oil. I brought a large bowl o share and a small container for my allergic child so I would not cross contaminate. I also brought a container of miscellaneous snack foods so she could help her self.
