Jude the Dude, Book Giveaway

CONTEST CLOSED

Read my interview wiht Bridget Batson

Every Peanut Allergy Kid needs a hero – someone to look up to, emulate, and teach them daily tricks to live safely. Jude the Dude: The Peanut Allergy Kid is a new book character created by Bridget Batson to fill that need. After creating the popular animation on peanut allergies, Bridget has turned her beloved peanut allergy story into a book to read to your child nightly. Now, she is giving away a copy of her first book in the series to one lucky reader (autographed by both her and "Jude the Dude").

To enter, tell us something special about your allergic child in the comments section. One reader will be chosen at random and the contest is open to both the United States and Canadian residences. Contest closes April 11,2011

Something about my kid with allergies?? Hmm...artsy, smart, fun, the kind of kid you want just enjoy being around. And the food issues are a challenge, but she does it smiling and never complaining..

I have a six year old granddaughter that is allergic to peanuts. What a nice way to help her understand her allergies.

I have two boys with food allergies. My oldest son (allergic to gluten and egg) has been a wonderful big brother who shows my younger son how to navigate a world with allergies. My younger son (allergic to mushrooms, spinach, all legumes, spices, peanuts and tree nuts) is learning to find his "allergy voice" and advocate for himself and others. Both are very compassionate.

My 11 year old daughter, Amanda is so special because she has endured the last 9 years of her life not being able to eat anything that contains peanuts or tree nuts and has held her head high. I know that she feels different and she hates being allergic to peanuts, but this is teaching her that life isn't always easy.

I think she is so special that I even wrote a children's book about peanut and tree nut allergies that teaches children and parents what it is like to live with a life-threatening allergy. It even deals with bullying.

Just this morning I was called by the school nurse because someone in Amanda's class told her her tongue looked big! That's just mean. Only a child with the allergy itself knows if he/she is having anaphylactic shock.

Please check out my website about peanut allergies.

My 5 year old son is allergic to diary, eggs, bananas and tree nuts. His favourite lunch (and what he's eating right now) is a spinach sandwich with salt and pepper (!).

He is a remarkably brave and understanding little boy.

We just found out that our 5 month old son is allergic to milk, soy & cats. I have started to begin my research so, when he starts solids next month, we are fully prepared. I also need to be able to teach him about his allergies.Due to his allegies, he has extreme ezcema, which we are starting to be able to get under control, but you'd never know anything was wrong bche is a champ about all of this.

My 12 year old daughter has severe allergies to milk and peanuts. She also has asthma and eczema. I'm so proud of her. She is such an amazing trouper. She never complains and takes it all in stride- even during these difficult middle school years. I also have give a shout out to my 16 year old son. He has no food allergies. As we all know, food allergies affect the entire family. He never, ever complains and I honestly trust him to take care of her more than I trust just about anyone else.

My son is allergic to 6 of the top 8 allergens among other things. He is a very smart and enthusiastic kid who is learning about his food allergies and how to keep himself safe. It's definitely been a lot of work keeping a preschooler with multiple allergies safe, but the look on his face when I make him extra-special foods is more than worth the effort.

My 3 year old is allergic to peanuts, treenuts, eggs, and soy. He is such a good sport when his brother eats something he can't have! He is my sweet, shy boy but is happy to tell you that nuts and eggs make him "sicky"!

My son is allergic to peanut, tree nuts, dairy, gluten, egg. . . BUT that doesn't stop him from being the happiest, bravest kid on the planet! OK- so maybe we are a little biased :)

He loves to learn from books and this would be a super addition to our collection!

My children are both allergic to nuts, peanuts and sesame. My son will be 5 in April (this would be a FANTASTIC birthday present!) and my daughter is 2 1/2. L, my son, has a very good understanding of his allergies and really keeps a close eye on what people feed him and his sister. He's trying to teach N, my daughter, how to say no to "bad" food and to understand their differences. He's also learning to read, so this would be an awesome incentive! I'm glad they have each other to go through this together. We babysit 2 days a week for a family with 2 kids who also have the same allergies and I'm glad to know their parents can be secure in the fact their kids are being well taken care of. Our motto around here is "We may be a little nutty, but we don't eat 'em!" Gets the kids giggling every time!!

Great idea, only too bad it's not open to Australia - as the numbers of peanut allergic kids here is growing (my 9 Yr old is one of them). Can the book be purchased here down under ? :)

I have a two year old son with severe food allergies. He is allergic to milk, soy, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, sunflower, and sesame. Living with food allergies can be a very difficult and sometimes lonesome. With increase in education and awareness of food allergies I believe my son will lead a much happier and healthy fullfilling life. My son may be little but he's got a big heart and I live everyday to make his life as wonderful as I can.

A great addition for an Easter basket...

I think the local Easter Bunny needs to include this in our easter basket....Although, if we were to win it, I admit I would donate it to our school for Food Allergy Awareness Week. And of course purchase a copy for my super cool food allergy dude.

My daughter Ainslee is anaphylactic to peanuts, dairy, eggs, tree nuts and latex. The one thing I will always remember my daughter saying to her father when we were talking about having another baby is "Mama, I sure hope this baby has no allergies"
On the day of her 3rd birthday party she had 4 epipens in 2 hours because of dairy in a hotdog, it was the 5th ingredient.

Despite having multiple, life-threatening food allergies, my almost 4yr.-old boy is very well-adapted, friendly, and smart. At the age of 2, he could recognize and name various shapes like hexagon and pentagon. At 3 1/2, he started to learn how to read. He can count to ten in French and Spanish (besides English, of course). He makes me very proud every day!

My six year old daughter is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and egg. Rather than sit at the peanut-free table in the school cafeteria, she eats with her classmates at the class table. She brings a floral placemat in her lunchbox every day and she and her classmates know that her food stays on the placemat and no one shares food. By integrating her with her classmates in the cafeteria, she is learning to manage her allergies independently while also educating her classmates about the issue of food allergies. While her school does not serve peanut-butter (they only serve sunflower butter), children can bring peanut-butter from home. On their own, her BFF's have stopped bringing peanut butter and now bring allergy friendly meals when they eat with Lauren.
